Step One: Clear it out!
The first step is to get rid of the clutter and do a big spring clean. I know there are a few of you that have your holiday decorations still out; and those bulky blankets for getting cozy can now be put away for another year. I suggest tackling this one room at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed. This might mean pulling everything out of a drawer and piling it in a corner. Then go through what you want to keep and only put back the things you need.
Step Two: Organize yourself!
Now that you’ve gotten rid of the things you don’t need, make sure everything gets put back in a thoughtful and organized way. Don’t just toss things back into your nicely cleaned drawer; get organizational inserts for drawers and bins and baskets for closets and cabinets. I found these great colourful jars at Michaels which would be perfect for pantry items, or storing crafts like ribbons, yarns or markers. They even have chalk board labels on them. You can never have too many boxes or baskets. These ones from Michaels can be used in your mudroom to fill with scarfs, shoes, etc. Or they are even nice enough to keep in the living room filled with magazines or remotes.
Step Three: Add some freshness!
This can be something large like painting a room or even a wall in a room to add a punch of colour or just changing it to a brighter colour. Simply add some fun to a room with new accent pillows, or a new duvet for your bed. I love to switch out a few pieces in my house seasonally. It’s an instant mood adjuster!
